Vor einigen Wochen kündigte das tolle New Yorker Label What’s Your Rupture? für November das Debüt einer neuen Supergroup, bestehend aus Chris Rowley (Huggy Bear) und John Arthur Webb von Male Bonding an.
Zusammen mit Bassist Kevin Hendrick (Middex) und Schlagzeuger Sonny Barrett sind sie Adulkt Life und Book Of Curses ist nicht weniger als mein Debüt des Jahres 2020.
Adulkt Life passen auch als englische Bands fantastisch ins fast ausschließlich amerikanische What’s Your Rupture? Labelprogramm und müssen sich zwischen Acts wie Bodega, Fucked Up, Parquet Courts oder Royal Headache pudelwohl fühlen. Eine typisch-britische Band sind Adulkt Life auf keinen Fall.
Vielmehr erinnert Book Of Curses stark an den US-Post-Noise-Punk von Bands wie Shellac, The Jesus Lizard oder Nation Of Ulysses, doch nach häufigem Genuss, und wenn sich die noisigen Feedbackschwaden gen Süden verzogen haben, entpuppt es sich zu einem richtigen Hit-Album. Ok, lange aufhalten mit Intros oder Solis, das ist nicht das Ding der Kollegen Rowley, Hendrick, Webb und Barrett, die lieber rastlos hetzend ganz schnell auf den Punkt kommen wollen, und so bleibt auch die Gesamtzeit der 10 Tracks unter 30 Minuten. Die allerdings haben es wahrlich in sich und werden jeden Freund des amerikanischen Noise-Undergrounds in spastische Verzückung versetzen. Obwohl sie aus London kommen. Was für ein Debüt!
